With every new room at your accommodation camp, we’ll ask you the same sort of questions. What is the size of the room and what is its capacity? How much are you looking to do in your fit out? New flooring and wall coverings or just new furniture? Is it a new build or an existing room? If its existing, are there any current fixtures such as cabinetry that we will have to work around in our designs. It is no different when it comes to fitting out your office area.
These are all valid points for your offices, as well as your bedrooms, dining rooms and recreation rooms. The difference with your office is this is an area where your employees work. They need to be able to concentrate and focus on their tasks easily. Whether your office area is an open plan, allowing room for many desks or a closed plan, with various separate offices, it needs to be accommodating for all types of workers.
How does an office space encourage different work styles?
As we all know, we’re all different and all have a different working style that works best for us. Some enjoy being in the open office, surrounded by their peers and noise, while others like peace and seclusion while they work. It is a good idea to include different options within your office area to encourage all your employees to work in the way they feel most comfortable and therefore the way they will be most productive.
Planning office areas
Planning out your space according to your expected amount of employees use, is a great way to ensure that you use the space well. By creating a flow plan of the office space, you will be able to map out where you want everything to be. On a floorplan you can include various spaces within your office area, such as the reception, board room, cubicles, desks, refreshment station, booths any maybe even a lounge area. All these spaces are beneficial to an office area and encourage staff members to work in the way that best suits them.
Office furniture should be comfortable and durable
You’ll want your furniture to be comfortable, durable, and easy to move. Offices change and move around a lot, and you want your furniture to be able to move easily without disturbing others. You might also consider height adjustable desks so that your employees can work at the height that best suits them.
When it comes to comfortability and durability, the two don’t always go in hand, however, they can! Office furniture that is both comfortable and durable isn’t impossible to find, and we believe it is a must have. The rigours of the mining environment, with dust and dirt, is a harsh one for furniture to cope with. For this reason, your office furniture must be durable. However, it mustn’t come at the expense of your employee’s comfort. If your employees are comfortable while they work, they will be much more productive and happier in the office environment.
Boosting productivity though style
On a similar note, style also adds to productivity and morale in the office. Stylish furniture that adds character to the room, also adds intrigue and brings the office to life. With a lively office, comes employees who are much happier to step into that workspace every morning, rather than dragging themselves there.
If the office is dimly lit, uses dull colours, and offers no reprieve from the walls and desks, this could cause your employees to become dissatisfied with their surroundings. Adding colours and wall coverings to your office will give off better vibes within the office space. However, you want a happy medium with this. You will still want your office area to be a professional space, that encourages work rather than play.
By thinking all the above points through, you should be able to come up with a plan for what you are wanting to accomplish with your new office fit out. What elements you want to include in the fit out and what elements can be left alone. You’ll also consider the space to work as best as it can and what features will need to be worked around.
